Project Description

Bahrain International Airport, Manama, Bahrain

The reconstruction and modernisation of the airport’s terminal 1, now named Terminal A was completed in March 2015. The building had been designed in accordance with industry standards to attain LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certification which is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings.

Project Goal:

  • To design, manufacture and supply suitable LED lighting to the arrival area, baggage reclaim area, corridors and air bridge areas of the terminal in the airport to enhance passenger convenience, safety and security. To ensure compliance to LEED gold standard so that certification would be achieved.

What we did:

Most of the requested luminaires were bespoke, some involving special bracketry to mate with existing ceiling structure, so we created CAD models and design simulation images using Relux software for the client to review. Energy usage calculations were made to highlight significant savings that would be achieved against the existing fluorescent, metal halide and halogen lighting.

After approval, we manufactured the required LED lighting and supplied the fittings to the refit building engineers to install in the terminal.
